8.Youth Canoe/Kayak Clinic
North Beach
Learn the basics of flat-water kayaking or canoeing!  This “geared for youth” program gets you acquainted with such terms as the bow, the stern, the gunwales and the thwart.  Safety and general waterway rules are also discussed.  Then take a relaxing paddle through some of the most beautiful bays around the Delawana.  Don’t forget your sunscreen.  Weather permitting.  Ages 7+ please.

Nature Programs

15. Speaking of Wildlife

Presented by Muskoka Wildlife Centre - this is Canada's largest live-animal outreach program!  Each informative presentation features a close encounter with some of Ontario's magnificent wild creatures and is designed to give the audience a better appreciation for the wildlife around them

16. Pond study

Explore amazing wetlands, one of the most productive types of habitats in North America. Join a Wye Marsh naturalist and get down and dirty while dip netting in a pond on Royal Island for its underwater creatures.  We will help you identify the animals and insects that you discover and teach you about their life cycles and how they survive.  We will also help you to understand what you can do to protect wetlands and we will always be on the lookout for toe biters!

17. Look, See, Paint

Calling all artists (and hopefuls)!  Here is a chance to get out into Georgian Bay and paint what you see.  One of the Wye Marsh “artsy” naturalists will lead you on a guided painting adventure to some of the most spectacular views in Ontario.  Let the sunset be your inspiration!  We will provide you with a small painting kit which will allow you to interpret the views as you see them.  This a great opportunity to get outside and relax and record the beauty you find.  No experience necessary and all ages are welcome!

18.  Forrest Wonders               
Beausoliel Island picnic Day
Discover the trees through the forest on a hike around Beausoliel Island.  With the help of a Wye Marsh naturalist and a tree key identification book, you will learn how to easily identify several different species of trees and herbaceous plants that are native to the area.  Topics of discussion will include forest succession, resource management techniques, and eco-site identification.  The little ones can ‘Adopt a Tree’ of their very own with a keep sake to take home with them!

19. Wet N’ Scaly

Join the Wye Marsh naturalists for one of our most exciting programs.  Learn all about the reptiles and amphibians of Georgian Bay during this hour and a half session. Come out and make friends with live snakes, turtles, salamanders and frogs.  You will learn all about where they live, what they eat, and all of their interesting and sometimes strange characteristics.  Get up close and personal with some of the world’s most exciting creatures!

20. Creatures of the Night

Experience nature as few people do…at night! Grab a flashlight and join the Wye Marsh to search for the most interesting and secretive creatures in the wild world. You will discover how some of the most amazing night creatures live and survive through the investigation of owls, bats, raccoons, and salamanders that we may find.  A Wye Marsh naturalist will explain and explore some of the night’s most fascinating creatures, from moths to flying squirrels, and mosquitoes to fireflies.  This evening’s show and walk will get you excited to look around in the dark!

21.  GPS Survival

The future has arrived! Geo-caching, for those of you who have not heard of it, is an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers called geo-caches.  The Wye Marsh wants to pass our high tech skills on to you! A GPS allows a connection from the palm of your hand to satellites in space to navigate any point on our planet.  Join us for a quick introduction to the basic functions of GPS navigation including understanding way-points, geo-caching, and following directional indicators.  It’s easier than you think!

22. Birds of Georgian Bay

Explore the areas around Delawana and search for some of the birds that nest around Georgian Bay.  We will begin with a brief slide show to introduce you to some new species or just to refresh your memory, and then we will walk the shorelines in search of many different types of birds.  Great for first time birders or seasoned professionals.  Binoculars included.

Explore nature using your senses of touch, smell, sight, sound and even taste!  Your little ones will come to appreciate all of the wonders around them with fun hands-on activities and crafts geared towards using all of our senses.

24. Wilderness Survival

Learn all about the art of wilderness survival!  An introduction to a basic knowledge of wilderness survival skills will have you building shelters, starting fires without matches, and learning about edible wilds!   What you learn in this session could save your life one day!!

25. History By Canoe or Kayak* (Max 25)
North Beach
Georgian Bay has a rich culture of history that can be explored through stories and legends. Take a step into the past and explore the people and nature of history.  We invite adults to take a break from the little ones and join us for this canoe adventure immersing you into cultures long gone.  Learn about the Native peoples and European settlers as they interacted to shape the Georgian Bay of today.  The canoe tour is lead by an Ontario Recreational Canoeing Association (ORCA) certified Wye Marsh naturalist.

26. Animal Tracking

Join a Wye Marsh naturalist for a lesson on Ontario’s furry critters!  Can you tell a Mink from an Otter?   We will start you off with a slide show to clear up any confusion about the mammals of Ontario.  Following this presentation and discussion, we will create plaster animal tracks for you to keep as a souvenir, and then head off for a nature hike to track down some of these critters.  We will teach you some tracking techniques that are sure to impress your friends!

Here is a chance for all you buggy families to get outside and see the bugs of Georgian Bay!  Join one of our Wye Marsh naturalist for an evening adventure of getting down and dirty in search of some of the most successful and interesting organisms on the planet.  A show on bugs will give you some knowledge for the hiking adventure we will take as the sun goes down and the bugs emerge.  We will have LIVE bugs for you to investigate and study.  From the shorelines to the forest, we are going to dig up some fun!

Pontoon Boat Taxi to Beausoleil Island, part of Georgian Bay Islands National Park.  Here you can enjoy your afternoon in nature while embarking on a self-guided hike and/or bike tour of the Island.  Trail maps can be picked up from the Front Desk.  Be sure to bring a packed lunch, as there are no food options on the Island.

It’s a Delawana tradition!  Guests begin their picnic excursion boarding our Pontoon Boats to Beausoleil Island.  A packed program features a BBQ lunch, land sports, games and a lot more.  Enjoy the many trails, sandy beaches, and natural beauty of this incredible setting.  Don’t forget your bathing suits and SANDALS!  Additional costs:  Children 13 & over and Adults $12.00 (charged to your room).

Take a relaxing, 45 minute, narrated boat cruise that explores the beautiful waterways surrounding the Delawana Inn & Resort.  Cruises depart every half hour.

DELAWANA SAILING SCHOOL

Sign up for our daily Delawana Sailing School.  Participants will learn the necessary skills and knowledge to confidently sail safely.  Become a “Certified Skipper at the Del!”  School offered for youths aged 7-16 (AM) and adults (PM).  Additional cost $35.00 + taxes & service charge.
$1000.00 deposit required.
Half day $55.00 + taxes
Full Day $95.00 + taxes

FISHING BOAT RENTALS

Looking for a relaxing way to explore Georgian Bay?  Why not take one of our 14-foot
(9.9 HP or 15 HP) fishing boats out for a spin.  Whether you’re looking to do some sunset/sunrise
fishing or just some exploring as a family, this is the way to go.  Fishing boats are available for
½ day (4 hours) or full day (8 hours) rentals.
Half day: $55.00 + taxes
Full day: $95.00 + taxes

THE DELAWANA SKI SCHOOL

You can ski all summer long with our very own ski instructors.  Banana Boat rides, ski lessons and a whole lot more.  Head down to the docks to see these wacky instructors and to setup your appointment.  Additional charges apply.

WAVERUNNER SAFARIS TOURS

Sign-up for the ride of your life!  Join one of the Delawana’s own waterfront staff for a guided tour of the area Waverunner style!  With 5 tours going out daily and up to 2 riders per Waverunner, the whole family can enjoy this!  Please note that drivers only are required to be at least 18 years of age.  For more information, head down to the docks and speak with any of our waterfront staff.

FISHING BOAT RENTALS
